This painting was conceived as a tribute to those who lost their lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018. The modern-day tragedy unfolded when a heavily-armed 19-year-old former student opened fire shortly before classes dismissed for the day, killing 17 people while the surviving students, faculty and staff barricaded themselves inside the school's classrooms.

In an age when human beings are becoming more and more desensitized to mass shootings, this painting also serves as a call to visualize the world as it used to be before the days that violence and active-shooter drills became the norm for our nation's students. “Quoth the raven, ‘Nevermore.’”
